My Move To Oregon

Oregon Ravens

It’s taken me 29 years of existing and 12 years of selling my labor for me to realize I my not be a good capitalist but am great at fucking around and finding out.

So, this move is just me wanting to “fuck around and find out” what it’s like to live in the PNW.

In the process of planning my move to Oregon, I’ve become a better capitalist.

Living in ATX I was not enjoying myself at all!! Between the hours of being stuck in Mopac and I-35 traffic and having to live with a roommate to exist in a comfortable-ish way. This way of living was not getting me anywhere.

I was also tired of going to the same 4 parks in Austin for hiking trails. You can only do the Greenbelt loop so many times before it gets hella boring. Plus, doing anything outdoors involved driving at least 45 minutes to a crowded parking lot.

My search for a place that I would enjoy living in that offered me outdoor activities, affordable living expenses and a way to enjoy existing, not just survive.

So, after some research and a few job interviews, my destination was set on Oregon.

The capitalistic skill that improved in the process of figuring this all out is budgeting.

Now that I live in a new state, I get to budget a new way of living.

I moved here with my trail bike, three storage boxes and anything else that fit in my 2011 Volkswagen Golf.

In Austin I had a budget that kept me in the status quo.

This budget allowed me to survive, it was simple.

In Oregon I have a budget that allows me to discover a new environment, community, and status.

According to my research (I asked ChatGPT lol), Texas has 89 state parks compared to 255 state parks in Oregon!!

I am also able to explore a new community. In Oregon I am going to be able to explore surfing in the coast, rock climbing at different state parks and hiking all the different peaks. All these different interests will allow me to be a part of different communities.

My move to Oregon is allowing me to work on my status as a creative. My quality of life has improved incrementally. I don’t have hour long commutes, everything is 15 minutes away!! I have groceries, restaurants, parks and trails within walking distance. I do not have to depend on my car to be able to care for my basic necessities. My improved quality of life will allow me to try out different ways to be creative. I am looking forward to the possibility of making murals, making landscape paintings and creating more animations.

So far I have explored The Sand Dunes in Florence,Oregon and Spencer Butte in Eugene, Oregon.

It wasn’t easy but I am glad I decided to make this move.
