My Subscriptions (Patreon, Memberships and School)

Mr. S busting a move! 🕺🏽

Tuesday is my first day of class for the Spring semester. I will be taking Digital Painting and Background Design at Austin Community College. In addition to taking a semester course, I use different subscriptions to improve and inspire my illustration skills. I am sharing in detail the different ways that my subscriptions to Patreon, different memberships and school help me in creating.

Patreon

Currently I provide support for three content creators.

1)    Hallease creates an insightful podcast called Tryna Be Somebody

-I recommend this episode What’s your EXIT strategy tho?! https://youtu.be/0OzvaTmWV7o

2) Ten Hundred creates awesome murals and great youtube videos.

-Through his Patreon membership he makes a Discord group available. Through this Discord group I’ve been able to meet other artists.

-I am also inspired by his ability to create unique merchandise and ability to include his audience in his creativity.

-I was really impressed with the Kickstarter campaign he created for custom playing cards. This is the link to this project https://youtu.be/0OzvaTmWV7o

3)    Victrola is an Improv group based out of the Coldtowne Theater in Austin, TX. I’ve taken improv classes taught by Michael Jastroch and Cortnie Jones. Taking improv classes has helped me with being more present in the moment and less in my head.

-       Coldtowne theater offers Improv classes and sketch classes ( I might try out the sketch class in the summer) here is their link. https://coldtowne-theater.coursestorm.com

Memberships

I am a member of Skillshare and Flourish

1)    Skillshare has made it accessible for me to watch different creatives teach creative skills from their perspective.

-       Bonnie Christine teaches surface pattern design. She is a self-taught artist that simplifies creating art in a way that is manageable.

-       Andy J. Pizza is an artist that teaches different ways to make creativity a career. He offers new weekly episode every wednesday in his podcast Creative Pep Talk (https://www.creativepeptalk.com

2)    Flourish is a membership that Bonnie Christine offers.

-       Through this Flourish community I have learned how to create a surface pattern design, build a portfolio art licensing. (https://www.surfacepatterndesigners.com/flourish)

School

I am enrolled at Austin Community College. I plan on completing the 2D Animation associates degree. Attending classes at a community college encourages me to stay consistent in my growth and challenges me to approach creating in a more structured way.

In conclusion, I have realized that a huge part of being able to grow as an artist is the ability to network with different communities.

In the comments let me know what artists you provide support to and if you are a part of a community that has been helpful in your creative journey.
