Realizing Growth

I recently watched the Disney animation short film Inner Workings (this is the preview on youtube). If you have Disney Plus I highly recommend watching it!

The beginning of this six-minute short film illustrates exactly my mental state since I’ve started my creative journey. That tug between keeping a job that offers me a consistent paycheck and my heart pushing me towards taking the plunge into creating art that provides value for others.

Like the character in the Inner Workings film, I need to quite down my brain that tries to protect me from taking too many risks and let my heart lead me into creating a more fulfilling life.

My purpose in 2022 is to grow mentally, physically (running the Austin Half Marathon in February) and creatively. I am learning that to grow I need to challenge the way I approach every day and need to have a clear understanding of my current reality.

The following are three obstacles that are my current reality and how I plan on changing them.

1.     Currently a full-time phlebotomist but will become part time in February.

a. Make a budget that includes my essential expenses (rent, groceries, insurance, phone bill etc.) and memberships (school, Patreon, Flourish) for the past nine years has not allowed space for me to challenge myself to have different experiences.

2.     Currently make mental note or sporadically plan a to-do list. Will start writing in a planner every Sunday to plan for the week/month/year ahead.

a. The planner will include my goals and dreams, Long-term steps that support dreams, mid-term steps that support your long-term goals and short-term steps that support your mid term goals.

3.     Currently I do not make any income from my art. Will attempt different ways to make money using my art.

a. Submitting for a certificate of formation through Secretary of State . Will start a business account to separate my personal and business finances.

Although I post on Instagram, Imgur and am considering starting a yourtube channel to compliment my blog post, I am mostly interested in growing my creative business through word of mouth and locally. In an ideal world, I would have a creative business that keeps its transactions among local businesses and not immediately towards big corporations/companies (ideally). In my research to achieve this ideal scenario,  I am reading Perennial Seller by Ryan Holiday. I will give y’all an update on what I learn in my next blog post.

Peace out,

Reibert-Anthony
